FIRE AT DAY DAWN, WORKERS’ CLUB DESTROYED.
Perth, Oct. 5
The Day Dawn Workers’ Club, a wood and iron building, was destroyed by fire early this morning. Volunteers made strenuous efforts to extinguish the blaze, but the flames had too strong a hold. They were successful, however, in saving the billiard table and portion of the room. The heat of the fire made the safe red hot, and destroyed bank notes to the value of £30 belonging to the club, and a similar amount belonging to the steward. The stock and furniture were insured for £150. The building was owned by Mr. Nat. Harper. The origin in of the fire is a mystery.
